Lab activities for Class 8th

OBJECTIVE

To find the total surface area of any cuboidal objects through an activity.

PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE

Concept of area of a rectangle

MATERIALS REQUIRED

Scissors,  gluestick, a cuboidal box

PROCEDURE

1. Take an empty cuboidal box and name it's length,breadth,height as l, b ,h (Figure-1)

2.Colour each pair of opposite faces with different colours

3.Cut out these 6 faces.

4. Find the area of each face. ( Figure-2)

5.Add the area of all faces. (This is total surface area)

OBSERVATION

1.Area of each blue face=....2.bh.....sq. units.

2.Area of each red face =.......2 lb.....sq. units

3. Area of each green face = ....2 lh...sq. units

CONCLUSION

Total surface area = 2(area of  each blue face+ area of each red face + area of each green face)
