1982
 EVMs were used first time in assembly byelection in Kerala and EVMs are being used regularly since 1998.

1985
Anti Defection  Law came into existence.

1988
The age of casting became from 21 to 18 on 20 December 1988.


1996
Model Code of Conduct came into force from 1996 and the number of seats to fight election for a candidate were reduced from 3 to 2.

2002
As per the direction of Hon'ble supreme Court it is mandatory to make Criminal Record and other information of a candidate public.

2013
NOTA none of the above came into existence in 2013.

2014
All the proceedings of cases against MPs and MLAs would be completed within a year,If the candidates​ had been charge sheeted as per the direction of the Hon'ble Supreme Court.

2017
It is mandatory for political Parties to collect party fund through Electoral Bond above  Rs 2000.

New in Election 2019

VVPAT will be used in all polling booth.

One polling booth will be managed by women in every assembly segment.

Citizens can report about violation of model Code of Conduct by an app C-Vigil.

Parties Will advertise criminal antecedents of their candidates.

GPS tracking of each EVM.

EVM will have candidates photos along with symbol and candidate name in Braille.

Electronic Transmitted Postal Ballot for service voters.

Social media firms are asked by EC to handle complaints  regarding election campaign by political parties.

Photo voter slip will not be accepted as sole document for recognise of voter at polling station.

VVPAT voter verifiable paper audit trial.

EVM electronic voting machine.

GPS global positioning system.

Model Code of Conduct

Model Code of Conduct means set of rules which everyone should follow during the election.

This comes into force from day of announcement of election schedule till the declaration of the result of the election.

In 1979 some rules are defined by Election Commission to party in power in center as well as in state,these ruling must follow these guidelines issued by EC.

Some of them are that MPs,Minister, will not use public exchequer for their part work.
Public Machinery will not use by party in power for conducting their party programmes.

Party in power must not announce any policy to attract voters.
EC can issue show cause notice for the violation of this model Code of Conduct and does not leave good impression on the voters.
